For years, I had no understanding of calories
Before I had my eldest, I was always slim. I never really had to think about my weight. But as soon as I had him, everything changed. My body didn’t bounce back, and from then on, my weight just kept going up and down. The smallest I’ve been since having kids was 14 stone, and even that felt huge compared to being around 9 stone before becoming a mum.
I realised I’d built a really unhealthy relationship with food. Some people stop eating when they’re stressed – I do the opposite. I eat my feelings. Food became my comfort blanket, whether I was sad, overwhelmed or even happy. It was just always there. I’d have a Greggs and a takeaway in a day and think, "That’s not loads." But once I started understanding calories properly, I realised how much I was actually putting into my body.
I was ready to give up before I found Voy
When I had my first daughter, I gave Slimming World a go. I lost a stone, but I never agreed with the whole idea. They tell you you can eat unlimited rice and pasta, and for me, the calories just didn’t add up. It didn’t feel sustainable. I knew I wouldn’t be able to keep it up unless I stayed on it forever, and that just wasn’t realistic.
I’ve done the shakes, Weight Watchers, you name it. I’ve tried it all. Calorie counting didn’t stick. I’d get bored or fed up and end up giving in to temptation, especially with the kids around and my partner eating normally. It was just too easy to fall back into old habits.
TikTok put the idea of Voy into my head
I actually started out with MedExpress because I’d seen people talking about it on social media. That’s how I first came across Voy, too. I saw others sharing their journeys, and that’s when I realised how different it was. It’s more expensive than some of the other options, but honestly, you get what you pay for.
I was nervous at first. I’m not great with needles, so the idea of injecting myself was a big deal. I’d heard about Mounjaro and the other meds, but I didn’t know a lot. I’d done a bit of research, but nowhere near what I know now. It felt scary, I’d just spent all this money and couldn’t help but think, “what if I’ve just wasted it?” But I also knew deep down this was my last shot. My last resort to finally feel confident and happy in my own skin again.
