Research-Based Guide

If you’ve tried to lose weight before but it didn’t work out as you hoped, you might be curious about Mounjaro. You aren’t alone—it’s in pretty high demand.

That’s because medicines like Mounjaro represent a new approach to weight loss and have been shown to be more effective than lifestyle changes alone. Some have reported losing 25% of their starting weight after taking Mounjaro for over a year. That said, it should be combined with a balanced diet and exercise for best results. So you might want to check out our article on what you should be eating on Mounjaro.

While Mounjaro is licensed and approved as a treatment for weight loss in the UK, it’s still quite a new medicine and is only available on the NHS via your GP in certain circumstances. But if you can't get it on the NHS, you might be able to purchase it privately. Here's what you should bear in mind.

Where to buy Mounjaro?

Healthcare professionals at specialist NHS weight management services can prescribe Mounjaro if they feel it’s the right treatment for you. It’s also possible to get Mounjaro from your GP. But it’s currently only available on the NHS to patients with the highest clinical need—those with a BMI of 40 or more with at least four weight-related health conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, abnormal blood fats and obstructive sleep apnoea.

It's also available via private prescription though. This could be a private GP or weight loss service like ours, where the medication is prescribed by in-house medical staff and posted to you each month.

But be careful here: if you are looking at online services that sell medication, check that they are a registered pharmacy. This information should be on their website: for example, in our footer (scroll to the very end of this page!) you can see our registered pharmacy number and details of our registered superintendent pharmacist.

It could be dangerous to buy medicines from websites that aren’t registered pharmacies, because you can’t be sure if their products are safe, authentic, in-date or have undergone quality control.

Similarly, if you’re thinking of buying Mounjaro from an online health provider, they should be registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and General Medical Council (GMC).

Who is eligible for Mounjaro?

That would be people who have a BMI of 30 or above, or those with a BMI of 27-30 who have at least one other condition related to their weight.

How to order Mounjaro online?

We know that starting a new medicine can be a lot to get your head around. But when it comes to actually ordering Mounjaro, the process is pretty simple.

First, you need to speak to your healthcare provider. Tell them about your health goals and that you’re interested in trying Mounjaro. If they decide that the medicine would be safe and beneficial for you to take, they’ll issue a prescription.

Then, you’ll get the pens (if you’re using our service, we’ll post them to you). Follow the instructions your provider gives for using and storing them.

Online assessment for Mounjaro: What are the most common questions?

If you did want to buy Mounjaro online, you’ll have to fill out an assessment form so your provider’s medical team can confirm it’s right for you.

Mounjaro isn’t safe or suitable for everyone. And you should also know that it’s not a “shortcut” to achieving your health goals—it’s meant to be taken alongside a nutritious diet and regular exercise for at least a year.

So, what sort of questions would an online service ask? Every provider is different, but here’s a few from our form to give you an idea:

What is your height and weight?

This is so we can calculate your BMI.

What challenges have you faced when trying to stay on track with your weight loss?

We ask this to get a sense of where you’re at in your weight loss journey, so we can tailor our coaching programme perfectly to your needs.

Are you taking any of the following medications?

Here, we’re checking whether you’re on any medicines that shouldn’t be used at the same time as Mounjaro.

Is Mounjaro right for me?

It’s true that Mounjaro works very well for most people. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s the right choice for you personally.

For example, your medical history and where your health is at right now could impact your doctor’s decision to prescribe you Mounjaro.

If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, or have any allergies to the ingredients in Mounjaro, you shouldn't use it. Please disclose all of your health conditions and current medications to your prescriber when filling out the medical questionnaire so they can appropriately assess whether the treatment is safe for you.

In any case, Mounjaro isn’t the only weight loss solution out there. In fact, you might be here because you’re looking to switch between Wegovy and Mounjaro. But if it’s not an option for you, it’s not game over for your health goals. You’ll just reach them another way.
